Kodak Launches Smartphone Called Ektra with Focus on Photography

Kodak joins the smartphone market with the Ektra, a photography centric smartphone built by the same manufacturer as Caterpillar’s rugged phones.

It features a 21 Megapixel Sony camera with DSLR-like camera interface where scene types, exposure, ISO, white balance and shutter speed can be manipulated while taking a picture. Kodak also added a non-reflective coating to the lens.

Here’s the Kodak Ektra:

Premium Design and Accessories

The Kodak Ektra looks like a very slim point-and-shoot camera. There is a dedicated shutter button that has horizontal two-step release, an easy to grip design when taking pictures and a textured finish.

Its camera is surrounded by a steel rim with markings just like that of a camera. It doesn’t serve a purpose for photography though; except for protecting the camera module.

Kodak also sells accessories for the Ektra – a case and a pouch that both made of leather.

Capable Hardware

In terms of specs, the Kodak Ektra is a capable smartphone. Running the show is a Helio-X20deca core processor from MediaTek, 3GB of RAM and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

A scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the 5 inch full HD display as well as the camera. There’s 32GB of on-board storage, a microSD card slot for up to 128GB memory cards and a USB Type-C port.

It can connect to 4G LTE networks and dual band Wi-Fi while a 3000mAh battery powers the device.

Sadly, the Kodak Ektra will only be available in European Union countries. It has an official price of €499 which is a little over ₱26,000.00.

Some online stores might be able to offer this smartphone for Filipinos though.
